Freshly Pressed Juice for Iron Deficiency

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies worldwide and affects people of all ages. Symptoms can range from fatigue and weakness to difficulty concentrating and a weakened immune system. Fortunately, there are natural ways to restore iron balance and supply the body with this essential mineral. One delicious and effective approach is drinking freshly pressed juices made from iron-rich ingredients.

Why freshly pressed juices?

Freshly pressed juices are an excellent way to provide the body with a wide range of nutrients, including iron. Unlike commercially produced juices, they contain no additives or preservatives and retain the natural vitamins and minerals of the ingredients. In addition, they are easy to digest and their nutrients are absorbed quickly by the body—an important factor when iron levels are low.

The Best Ingredients for Iron-Rich Juices

🌿 Nettle contains approximately 5–7 mg of iron per 100 grams, making it an excellent plant-based source of iron.

🍅 Beetroot not only provides iron (about 0.8 mg per 100 grams) but also contains vitamin C, which can enhance iron absorption.

🥕 Carrots contain beta-carotene, which may support iron absorption.

🍎 Apples are a good source of vitamin C, which promotes iron uptake, and they add a pleasant natural sweetness to the juice.

🍋 Lemons are rich in vitamin C and help further increase iron absorption.

🌿 Ginger acts as a bioavailability enhancer and gives the juice a pleasantly spicy note.

Freshly Pressed Juice for Iron Deficiency

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bunch of freshly picked nettle
  • 3 beetroots

  • 1 carrot

  • 2 apples

  • 1 lemon

  • A small piece of ginger

PREPARATION

Juice all ingredients gently and consume shortly after preparation.

It is important to use a slow, gentle pressing method with low rotation speed and minimal oxygen incorporation. We recommend a masticating (slow) juicer that presses the produce through a fine sieve. Centrifugal juicers operate at very high speeds and are less suitable for preserving sensitive nutrients during juicing.

Prevention of Iron Deficiency

In addition to incorporating iron-rich juices into the diet, there are other effective strategies to prevent iron deficiency. A balanced diet rich in iron-containing foods such as seeds, legumes, leafy greens, and pseudograins can help maintain adequate iron levels in the body.

Furthermore, consuming vitamin C at the same time can significantly enhance iron absorption, while the simultaneous intake of caffeinated beverages should be avoided, as caffeine may inhibit iron uptake. Regular physical activity and sufficient sleep can also support healthy iron metabolism and reduce the risk of deficiency.
